چکیده مقاله:

Oxyntomodulin (OXM), a proglucagon-derived peptide, is a well known anorexigenic peptide found inthe gut and brain of mammals. The present study was carried out to investigate the central effect of OXM onfood intake in non-fasted and fasted Ross broiler chicks. At four weeks of age, a guide cannula wasstereotaxically implanted into the right lateral ventricle of each bird. Two experiments were conducted onfree-feeding (non-fasted) and 6-h fasted broilers. In each experiment, eight birds were used in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square design. The birds were given an intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection of different doses of mammalian OXM. Intracerebroventricular injection of OXM at doses of 1.5, 3 and 6 nmol significantly(P

Effect of centrally administered interleukin-1 and endotoxin on food intake of fasted rats.

We have previously shown that interleukin-1 (IL-1), a polypeptide known to mediate many aspects of the acute phase response to infection, suppresses food intake when injected intraperitoneally into fasted rats. IL-1 acts at the level of the hypothalamus to induce fever. In view of the large number of peptides that have been shown to alter food intake as well as body temperature when injected in...

Central effect of histamine and antihistamines on food intake in freely feeding and food-deprived rabbits

Several lines of evidence suggest that brain histamine may be involved in the central control of food intake. The effect of histamine on feeding is mediated through three kinds of receptors (H1, H2, and H3). The present study was designed to investigate the effect of intracerebroventricular injection of histamine, promethazine (H1 antagonist) and ranitidine (H2 antagonist) on food intake of fre...

Role of 5-HT3 Receptor on Food Intake in Fed and Fasted Mice

BACKGROUND Many studies have shown that 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptor subtypes are involved in the regulation of feeding behavior. However, the relative contribution of 5-HT3 receptor remains unclear. The present study was aimed to investigate the role of 5-HT3 receptor in control of feeding behavior in fed and fasted mice. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Food intake and expression of c-...

Central effect of histamine and peripheral effect of histidine on food intake in rabbits

Histidine is an amino acid precursor of neuronal histamine. It is evident that peripheral injection of histidine produces effects that resemble to centrally administered histamine. The aim of the present study was to compare the effects of intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection of histamine and inraperitoneal (IP) injection of histidine on food intake in rabbits. ICV injections of histamine (1...
